Biography

I am a member of the Chromite group at CanmetMINING, which is part of the Critical Minerals and Strategic Resources division. The Ring of Fire chromite deposits in Northern Ontario are unique in that they are the only significant deposits of Chromite (from which Chromium metal can be recovered) in North America. My role in the team is mostly on developing a patented direct reduction process as an alternative technology to smelting Chromite ore to recover Chromium. To do so, I pelletize chromite ore with flux and reductant materials, and conduct pyrometallurgy experiments above 1000 C using furnaces (Tube and STA-DSC). During these experiments I analyze the off-gas using Infra-Red (IR) and Mass Spectrometry (MS), and additionally analyze the reduced pellets using optical and scanning electron Microscopy (SEM).
