Biography

Karel graduated from the Royal School of Mines in 1983 with a BSC.eng.(hons) in Mineral Technology. After a stint with the Anglo American Gold and Uranium Division he joined Davy Mckee Pacific in 1990 as a process engineer. Karel joined the engineering team for the detailed design of the Lihir project in 1994, and in 1997 joined the Rio Tinto owner's team as Chief Metallurgist for the project start-up. In 2000 Karel joined GRD Minproc and over the next 19 years worked on numerous pressure hydromet related studies and projects as well as providing in house support for the POX operation at GRD Macraes. Karel's final project for the company was the Copler expansion project in Turkey which was successfully commissioned in 2018. In 2019 Karel started Mettko as an independent consultancy specializing in pressure hydrometallurgy.
