Biography

Patrick G. Smith works as a Technical Services and Sales Specialist with Haggie North America Inc, a division of Haggie Steel Wire Ropes Pty Ltd based in Johannesburg, RSA. Prior to joining HNA in 2014, he previously worked as a Rope Technician at the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s Materials Testing Laboratory where he conducted statutory examinations and destructive testing activities on new and in-service shaft ropes to CSA-G4 Standard and in accordance with section 228 of the Ontario Mining Regulations. Working out of Sudbury, ON, he regularly travels throughout Canada and the USA providing direct field support, troubleshooting, and training services for the clients in his geographic territory. Drawing on more than 13 years of knowledge and field experience working with Steel Wire Rope, he also actively consults on new and existing projects regarding rope selection, installation, and maintenance requirements. He is also a strong proponent of collaboration within the hoisting community to share experience and practices that may help improve hoist rope safety and reliability for the benefit of the industry.
