Dr. Chen is presently a senior researcher at the Institute of Coating Technology for Hydrogen Gas Turbines, Liaoning Academy of Materials (Shenyang, Liaoning, China), working on design and development of MCrAlY coatings for gas turbines burning conventional and hydrogen containing fuels. Before joining the LAM, he was a research officer at the NRC Aerospace (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada), principal engineer at the AECC Commercial Aircraft Engine Co. Ltd. (Shanghai, China), senior scientist at Oerlikon Metco US Inc. (Westbury, NY, USA) and professor at the Kunming University of Science and Technology (Kunming, Yunnan, China). His major interests are processing-microstructure-mechanical property relationships of structural materials, degradation and failure mechanisms, and remaining life assessment of metallic coatings and thermal barrier coatings.
