Biography

Dr. Ioannis Michos is a Chemical Engineer specializing in advanced battery materials, electrochemical systems, and EU-funded research in sustainable energy technologies. His work spans cutting-edge materials synthesis, in-depth characterization, and high-performance energy storage development, combined with strategic leadership of major European R&I initiatives. He began his research career at the University of Cincinnati, where his team reported the world’s first redox flow battery utilizing a purely inorganic zeolite membrane - a breakthrough demonstrating exceptional proton-ion selectivity and ultra-low self-discharge. His contributions included data-driven membrane optimization and advanced electrochemical analysis to map component-specific behavior through various characterization methods. Today, Dr. Michos focueses on research of next-generation lithium-ion battery cathode materials, focusing on LiMn₂O₄ (LMO) and high-voltage LiNi₀.₅Mn₁.₅O₄ (LNMO). His work integrates materials synthesis, characterization, and performance optimization using state-of-the-art analytical techniques. Alongside laboratory research, he plays a key role in the scientific backbone of European innovation, contributing to Horizon Europe proposal design, technical concept development, and collaborative research strategy. He coordinates complex multinational R&I efforts, ensuring scientific rigor, strategic alignment, and impactful knowledge transfer across academia and industry.
