Biography

Ms. Fatima AKFAS is currently in her third year of pursuing a PhD at the Institute of Geology and Sustainable Mining (GSMI) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Ben Guerir, Morocco. She obtained her master’s degree in Chemical Science and the Valorization of Natural Phosphate in 2020 from the University of Mohammed VI Polytechnic in Benguerir. Her doctoral research primarily focuses on proposing an appropriate management approach and developing a valorization strategy for phosphogypsum. This study involves analyzing the speciation of minor and trace elements in phosphogypsum to gain a better understanding of its composition. Additionally, it evaluates the reactivity, availability, and retention of impurities in phosphogypsum to mitigate its adverse environmental impacts. Furthermore, Ms. AKFAS is working on developing a valorization approach to recycle phosphogypsum, aiming to attain economic benefits as it represents the only viable means to minimize its environmental footprint. Her research interests encompass minerals processing, chemical engineering, and waste management. Ms. AKFAS has contributed to notable publications in Q1 journals (please refer to the references for details).
