1 articleBiography
Boyd Davis is a principal of Kingston Process Metallurgy Inc., a 20 year old contract chemical process development company based in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Chemical Metallurgy from Queen’s University in 1994 in molten salt electrochemistry. After consulting for a few years in applied thermochemistry, he incorporated KPM in 2002 with his partner, Alain Roy. The company works with clients to assist them with chemical process development at the lab and pilot scale, in part, by integrating techno-economics with the lab work. Boyd has volunteered his time as an adjunct professor at Queen’s for the last 20 years and has supervised over a dozen MSc and PhD students in areas of hydrogen storage, energy recovery, and process development. He has taught courses in recycling and extractive metallurgy, and continues to lecture when called upon. He has also taught the processing component of MGB’s Mine Basics to financial analysts, investors, and governments for the last 15 years. Boyd is active with MetSoc-CIM and TMS, and served twice on the MetSoc board, as member services chair and as president in 2014 and initiated and co-chaired the Extraction 2018 event. He co-organizes a symposium on Implementation of New Technologies in Metallurgical Processes every nine years (2002, 2011, 2020) and initiated and coordinated the MetSoc Value Chain series.
