Prof Hayes has over 450 research publications, principally on phase equilibrium, and reaction mechanisms and kinetics in pyrometallurgical systems. He was founding director of the Pyrometallurgy Innovation Centre (PYROSEARCH) and developed strong collaborations with the metallurgical industry. A feature of the research has been the focus on fundamental science in support of industrial processes and process development.
Prof Hayes received TMS science awards from the Extraction and Process Division in 2004, 2010, 2012, 2018, 2021, TMS Distinguished Service Award in 2018, and his contributions to the field were honoured in the “Peter Hayes Symposium on Pyrometallurgy “ at Extraction 2018. Prof Hayes is currently associate researcher At PYROSEARCH.
