Biography

Biography: Helga Sonnenberg, Dipl. Ecotoxicology, B.Sc., M.Sc., CEO Helga is an aquatic biologist, ecotoxicologist and water scientist. From exploration to closure, Helga has been providing strategic actionable insights to clients on water related issues for the mining, hydropower, municipal, forestry and agricultural waste sectors. She founded Ecoreg Solutions in 2016 with a progressive vision for innovation through applied research, collaboration, work culture, and the belief that good water stewardship must guide our approach to every project. Whether receiving water quality, hydrology and fisheries components of baseline programs, federal and provincial environmental impact assessments, permitting and compliance, developing effluent and remedial targets, or environmental inputs for prefeasibility to detailed design, her team integrates multidisciplinary information from site water users, engineers and scientists to develop practical science-based solutions and positive environmental outcomes. Helga participated in the development of the Metal Mining Effluent Regulations (MMER) and wrote the associated water monitoring guidance. She does extensive advocacy for the mining industry through various associations.
