Biography

Dan Laporte is a Senior Principal in Geosyntec with more than 18 years of experience focused on acid mine drainage and metal leaching characterization and mine waste and site water management for the mining sector. Dan has extensive experience working with mining clients to support mine site environmental solutions throughout all stage of the mining cycle. He has experience in broad range of mine waste and water assessments that includes acid mine drainage and metal leaching assessments and prediction, seepage and source control assessments for waste rock and tailings facilities, mine water and groundwater contaminant transport, baseline surface water and groundwater reviews, and water quality and geochemical modeling. He has applied practical and innovative approaches to mine waste and water management to support development of site-wide management options with consideration for efficient operations and closure of main mining landforms (waste rock and tailings storage facilities), open pits, and underground mines. He has also supported the development of innovative mine waste characterization techniques to provide key information on physiochemical processes that could occur within waste rock and tailings storage facilities. Improved characterization of mine waste from laboratory and field scale testing allows for more accurate prediction of long-term water quality of drainage to assist clients with more effective management of mine impacted water risks.
