1 articleBiography
Dr. Ramona (Haniyeh) Fayazfar, PhD, P.Eng., is an Assistant Professor at Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at University of Ontario Institute of Technology. She received her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees at Sharif University of Technology. Prior to joining Ontario Tech, she was a postdoctoral fellow in Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing group at University of Waterloo. She has more than 20 years of experience in developing novel multifunctional advanced materials, advanced manufacturing, sustainable materials, and 3D printing. She has been actively involved in several industrially sponsored projects for aerospace and automotive applications such as Burloak Technologies (Samuel, Son & Co.), Lockheed Martin, Toyota Motor Corporation, Rio Tinto Company, NRC, and Industriasys. Her current research concentrates on Additive Manufacturing (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites), Bio Augmentation of Carbon-Negative and Circular Materials, Sustainable and Recyclable Materials for 3D Printing, Biomass-filled Biodegradable Polymeric Composites, Surface Engineering and Surface Qualification of Additively Manufactured Parts, Advanced Coatings with Smart properties, 3D printed Sensors (nano and wearable) for Point-of-Care Diagnostics and Health Monitoring. Her team examine development of novel feedstocks materials based on recycled sustainable fillers (e.g. natural, low carbon or carbon negative, metal, nano materials) and bio-based polymers compatible with low-cost 3D-printing, with a focus on recyclability and sustainability studies, and conducting methodological investigation evaluating how processing and materials interaction affects final properties. To this end, new engineering advanced materials compatible with AM have been designed/developed and characterized in her group to expand the range of possible products and enhance performance outcomes for end-use applications.
