Biography

Shima is currently a PhD student in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, specifically at the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ). She is working under the supervision of Prof. Elliot Biro, and co-advised by Dr. Sheida Sarafan at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). Her research is on laser brazing of automotive steels with the focus on microstructure evolutions and optimization of post-weld properties through microstructural characterization and mechanical testing to improve real-time quality control and eventually to take steps towards zero defect manufacturing. She received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) and University of Tehran. Her background is broad from atomic scale to the macroscopic scale! She was working on deformation behavior of materials (severe deformation and deformation path change), texture analysis, fatigue behavior of nanocrystalline materials, and molecular dynamics simulation.
