Biography

Jafar Safarian got his PhD in extractive metallurgy in 2007 from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). His PhD study was followed with more than four years academic and research activities as a PostDoc researcher at NTNU, and and then more than three years at SINTEF Materials and Chemistry during 2012-2015. He joined NTNU with a fulltime Associate professor position in 2016, and he got promotion to full Professor position in 2021. He teaches undergraduate and graduate students, and does currently research on solar grade silicon feedstock production, sustainable alumina production, hydrogen reduction processes, valorisation of waste, natural gas use in metals production, etc. He has management duties in several educational and research projects such as coordinating HALMan EU project in Horizon Europe programm, and HydroMetEC supported by EiT Raw Materials. He is in management teams of the Norwegian Center for Solar Cell Technology (FME-SUSOLTECH), HARARE EU project, and HyProS Gemini Centre. In 2022 to 2023, he has supervised 18 researchers in his team at NTNU (5 are PhD students).
