Abstract:

Consider the following scenario: this week, the mill suffered from lower throughput. The powder factor used in the mill feed was not high enough. Excessive blasthole fallback caused lower powder factors. Blastholes were not re-drilled to get the powder factor back up to design. How does your team diagnose gaps in the mine's performance?

Rock properties and their behaviors at each stage hide inside disparate databases. But not all data is useful or useable. Steven will present which data streams should be accessed to meet production goals and what feedback loops are critical to efficiently meeting those goals. He will show you how to build an integration using standard data management practices, data analyzation tactics, PowerBI, MinePortal, and multiple datasets from mine sites.

Learn how to get supervisors, engineers, and geologists on the same page and quickly share these findings with your entire team. Spend more time planning how to meet production goals and less time scrambling to report on the data. Use PowerBI in combination with other software to build dashboards that quantify the bottleneck for your specific concerns. No more endless exporting, importing, or correcting reports between departments. Quickly load pertinent data to create a stress-free weekly production meeting.

Mine to mill issues are easier to discuss when everyone has a holistic understanding of performance. When the correct data is integrated and properly analyzed, it forecasts the material's geologic profile headed to the mill. These insights, at the right time, allow operations to prepare accordingly and optimize mill throughput.

When your team has collaborated all week, the production meeting is less stressful. Working at over 40 mines, Steven will walk through challenges frequently seen, steps to take to overcome them, and what's to come for the future of production planning for geologists, drill and blast engineers, and supervisors.

Biography of the presenter: Steven has worked at over 40 mines across North America and Australia. He uses his Mining and Minerals Engineering degree to its full extent with a passion for automation, data management, and production performance diagnostics. His career began with BHP, developing processes to track equipment and material. He has worked on continuous improvement projects for Dyno Nobel, Rio Tinto, Kinross, Orica, Barrick, Newmont, and ArcelorMittal.
