Mr. Obregon is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer +15 years of experience in rock mechanics and mining operations in various locations worldwide (Peru, Chile, Canada). Much of his experience has been gained working for a variety of commodities comprising precious, base metals and metallurgical coal. He has extensive experience in site investigations by supervising geotechnical drilling programs, oriented core logging, field mapping, and in-situ field testing. He also has in-depth knowledge of rock engineering analysis and geotechnical design carrying out stability assessments for surface (tailings dams, waste rock dumps, heap leach pads, open pit slopes) and underground (drifts, pillar & open stope) mining structures via empirical, analytical, and numerical modelling tools. In addition to his expertise in geotechnical open pit design, Mr. Obregon has excelled in operational geotechnical roles by working closely with mining teams to ensure safe completion of mining plans by mitigation of geological risks in challenging and adverse geological environments. Currently Mr. Obregon holds an on-site geotechnical engineering role supporting the open pit mining operations of Teck Coal in the Elk valley of British Columbia.
