Biography

Graduated cum laude in Civil Engineering - Structural Section at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", in 1991. In 1996 she received her Ph.D. in Structural Engineering at the University of Florence. Since February 2001 to September 2015 she was a researcher in Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DICEA) of the University of Florence. Since October 2015 she is an Associate Professor in Structural Engineering at the DICEA Department, where she is currently teaching Structural Engineering, Earthquake Engineering and Advanced technologies for seismic protection of structures. In September 2018 she obtained the National Scientific Qualification for the position of Full Professor in Structural Engineering. She is the author of more than 190 scientific papers, 47 of which printed in International Journals. Two among these papers (S. Sorace, G. Terenzi, “Non-linear dynamic modeling and design procedure of FV spring-dampers for base isolation”, Engineering Structures, Vol. 23(12), December 2001, pp. 1556-1567; and S. Sorace, G. Terenzi, “Non-linear dynamic design procedure of FV spring-dampers for base isolation frame building applications”, Engineering Structures, Vol. 23(12), December 2001, pp. 1568-1576) were jointly awarded the 2001 edition of the "Munro Prize", for the best paper published every year in the Engineering Structures Journal, Elsevier Ltd. In April 2025, the article “Energy dissipation Technologies in Seismic Retrofitting: A Review” (Auths: Algamati, Al-Sakkaf, Bagchi) was published in the MDPI journal Civil Engineering, https://doi.org/10.3390/civileng6020023, in which Gloria Terenzi ranks second in the international ranking among the “Leading authors with the highest number of publications on the retrofitting of structures using energy dissipation devices”. This ranking was drawn up by consulting over 230 int. journals and conf. proc. found through the most accredited scientific sources of Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science, taking into account the publications produced on the topic of energy dissipation.
