Description
The session explores the intersection of neurodiversity, human performance, and workplace safety. Drawing on both my professional experience and my lived experience as a neurodivergent safety professional, I discuss how organizations can improve safety outcomes by designing systems that are more accessible and effective for the workforce.
While neurodiversity is often viewed through the lens of accommodation and inclusion, this presentation examines it as a safety and operational advantage. The session highlights how improvements intended to support neurodivergent employees frequently result in clearer communication, improved usability, stronger learning systems, and safer work practices for everyone.
I also share lessons learned from establishing Teck's Neurodivergent Inclusion Network and discuss practical opportunities for mining organizations to create environments where diverse ways of thinking can contribute to hazard recognition, problem solving, and continuous improvement.
