Abstract
An innovative mixed cyanide–chloride process has been developed for gold production. In this process, gold is initially recovered by cyanidation, followed by cyanide recovery and recycling using Acidification-Volatilization methods. During the cyanide recovery stage, gold forms a gold–chloride complex in solution, which is well suited for gold biosorption, where simultaneous adsorption and reduction occur to produce pure metallic gold. This integrated approach eliminates conventional gold recovery steps, including high-temperature elution and electrowinning, resulting in significant energy savings and supporting Net Zero objectives. Furthermore, the recovery and recycling of cyanide substantially reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional gold processing operations.
