Abstract
The 4% average return that the mining industry has delivered over the past five years is driven by the choices made in the recent past. How can a structured decision process improve our choices in the critical stages of exploration, piloting, development, and energy transition projects? Let’s look at best practices in use today in the energy industry and compare.
It is well documented that the human brain is subject to hundreds of flaws in judgement. How is the energy industry implementing structured decision processes to combat these flaws and improve their decisions across their organisations?
In this talk, Kent Burkholder will start by highlighting common symptoms of decision processes gone wrong. Using examples from both mining and energy, he will then describe the Decision Quality workflow and the tools that help to unlock the project complexity, align stakeholders in the decision dialogue, and bring clarity to our choices.
