Abstract
A mining corporate portfolio includes a wide range of assets such as exploration projects, innovation opportunities, operating mines, brownfield developments, and sub-economic resources. These assets have a variety of market, technical, and country risk exposures that complicate management’s understanding of the risk levels associated with different portfolio allocation decisions. This presentation considers how the portfolio risk characteristics changed at an intermediate gold producer after a recent acquisition. It quantifies the profound impact that portfolio decisions can have on the market, technical, and country risk levels of a mining company.
