Abstract
Over the last 15 years there has been a step change in the recognition that a mine can and should be a safe place to work. Today, it is the expectation that safety is essential for growth.
Recent statistics show the mining industry has reached a plateau on safety performance, and some may argue that performance is slipping. Change is needed to create safer mines and meet societal expectations for the mining industry.
Accelerating safety improvement centers on people, starting with leaders recognizing their personal contribution to the status quo and what they need to do personally to lead change. At the same time technology is changing at a rapid pace and opens the possibility inherently safer work with more ownership and engagement at the front lines.
In this discussion, Ann will explore how we can use the basic building blocks of safety to accelerate improvements in this changing and challenging work environment.
