Abstract
Amid growing demands to reduce their climate impacts, mining companies have begun to explore how to move beyond risk identification and mitigation to execute on their decarbonization agendas. This is a critical area as companies work to meet the environmental mandates associated with their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments as well as win back the trust of investors. There are several considerations miners can use to think through the context in which decarbonization might make sense for their organizations so that they can clearly visualize their risks, optimize their strategies, and realize their opportunities.
Through thoughtful discussion, this session will aim to focus on reflecting the voice of the industry through various perspective from key industry stakeholders across the mining sector. Showcasing a “sneak peek” into some of the results from a Mining Decarbonization Study, commissioned by Shell and done in collaboration with Deloitte. Some of these highlights include:
• A global view on decarbonization from across the mining sector
• The priorities and readiness to decarbonize in the sector today
• The key decisions and trade-offs that can enable real impact
• Near and long-term solutions to accelerate progress
• Key areas where collaboration is needed to support decarbonization goals
This session will delve into the key topics above, while showcasing the various perspectives from key industry stakeholders
