Abstract
The need to delineate material in surface mining is well-known to production geologists and engineers. Many methods exist to assist in this process, including polygon optimization algorithms inside of software. However, optimization is typically attempted pre-blast. Blast movement and swell cause the rock to shift three-dimensionally. This makes polygon optimization performed pre-blast obsolete.
This paper discusses unique methods for optimizing grade control polygons post-blast and tying the post-blast targets to pre-blast locations using computer algorithms. and unique reconciliation methods. Additionally, outcomes based on different optimization approaches are analyzed for value opportunities. Practical advice for hard rock miners will be offered based on the research performed during this study.
