Abstract
Global mining OEM, Komatsu, shares a practical case study of how they teleoperated a new hydraulic excavator while it loaded a Komatsu autonomous concept truck in Arizona from a remote console in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Separated by more than 400 miles, the Komatsu PC7000-11 and its operator leveraged an Immersive Technologies console that provided the user with information and views of what was seen from the machine’s actual cab onsite. Multiple cameras and sensors around the machine and bucket, as well as a 360-degree monitor and machine display, support visibility and situational awareness for the remote operator.
Sharing practical examples and applications, Mr. Nassauer will demonstrate how mining companies can now implement semi-automated teleoperations capabilities to reduce cycle times, improve safety and help combat operator fatigue. This presentation will include:
-
Steps taken to achieve a teleoperated hydraulic excavator, from concept to implementation
-
Augmented reality technology with operator-assist, supporting productivity improvement by displaying information and data that provides real-time feedback to production plan
-
What’s next, customer trials and operator guidance and coaching functionality through the utilization of AR technology.
