Abstract
Mining companies around the world are adopting the use of renewables or biodiesels now more than ever. Not only are they doing so to support existing sustainability plans and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but because of the many benefits biodiesels can provide.
As biofuels reduce particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions, air quality for miners underground is also improved through the adoption of biofuels. This has a greater health and safety benefit for miners and creates a safer work environment.
Biodiesel is made from various renewable materials such as biological materials, including crops, forest residues and organic wastes that is then blended into diesel to produce a lower-carbon (or bio-based) fuel. By blending biofuels with fossil diesel used to power mining equipment, you can reduce your emissions. As the mining industry continues to evolve and decarbonize, reducing emissions will be at the forefront of ESG mandates.
Biodiesel blends can be easily adopted, and top Original Engine Manufacturers (‘OEM’) have included the use of biodiesel blends and information in their owners’ manuals for over 10 years. The same can be said for newer, more technically advanced hybrid equipment models.
Switching to biodiesel fuel can generate significant carbon tax credits, offering financial benefits also. For example, a mine using 10ML of B45 (45% blended biodiesel), could earn a tax credit of approximately $760,000 or more.
For more than thirty years, Greenergy has been supplying customers with low carbon fuels, and as Europe’s largest manufacturer of waste-based biodiesel operating three plants in the UK and the Netherlands, Greenergy understands the role biofuels have in decarbonisation.
At this session you’ll hear more about Greenergy’s experience and how your mining operation can benefit from biodiesel today.
