Abstract
Quebec Iron Ore (QIO), a subsidiary of Champion Iron Limited (Champion), has established itself as a reliable producer of high-grade iron ore concentrate since its restart of operations in 2018 at the Bloom Lake mine site and has currently completed it expansion to double its capacity to 15 million tons per annum. QIO, with its high-quality product at 66 % Fe produced with hydro electricity, has already been contributing to lowering the carbon footprint of iron. The steel industry is adopting real changes in decarbonisation and QIO is working to among those making changes in the status quo.
QIO next move is the new Direct Reduction Pellet Feed project. This project upgrades the current Bloom Lake concentrate and purifies it to a higher quality product (i.e. <68.5 Fe and 1% SiO2), to generate the cleanest concentrate in the world. The flowsheet will be presented that generates this quality a minimum loses in iron units while being energy and reagent efficient.
