Abstract
Around 15% of the population is neurodivergent, meaning having a brain that is different in some way from typical. Often, when we hear the term neurodivergence, we think of conditions like autism, ADHD, or dyslexia. And while there can be many challenges being neurodivergent, neurodivergent people also have many strengths and talents. These strengths are often overlooked, and many of them are a perfect fit for the mining industry. Talents like focus, attention to detail, pattern recognition, data analysis, and more.
In the quest to find and attract qualified candidates, neurodivergent people and their skills need to be part of the diversity and inclusion conversation. Once in their roles and properly appreciated, accepted, accommodated, and supported, they can thrive and become loyal employees.
This talk will explore the strengths neurodivergent people bring to the table, and how to best attract, retain, and accommodate us. It's easier than you might think and will benefit your workplace culture and productivity levels in the long run.
