Abstract
GreenIron has a patented process- and system solution for highly energy efficient and fossil-free reduction of metal oxides to pure metal. The solution is a small-scale operation with a capacity of 40,000 tonnes input per annum and furnace. The small footprint of the furnace enables its placement in each locality where there is a need to reduce iron based oxides to pure iron/steel.
GreenIrons breakthrough technology; from 1971 where we made our first fossil free baering in Sweden; allows for local handling of waste and residuals from e.g., Steelplants where the output from the GreenIron furnace can be reinstated into the steelmaking process. The technology is applicable to several metal oxides such as iron, nickel, molybdenium, copper and others.
GreenIrons focus is to recycle waste and residuals from steel- and milling plants, grinding swarf from metal workshops and manufacturing industry, recycling stations and mine tailings with high contents of metal oxides of interest. The GreenIron solution is highly energy efficient and thus has a low operational cost. In
addition to this the plant has a low investment requirement which further enhances the cost efficiency of the solution.
To date GreenIron has reduced hematite to a 100% reduction rate and a 100% metallisation rate in the demo-furnace in Sweden. Furthermore, in 2022 GreenIron has contributed to a world-unique technology shift within our emission-intensive industry. The other day we contributed fossil-free iron to the casting of a product detail for Volvo Trucks' future fleet of electric trucks.
GreenIron has its R&D facility in place and its POC is working and in parallel GreenIron are building its first production site with a target of commercial shipping of fossil free metals is planned to commence in Q3-2023
