Abstract
Mining is expensive and Managers want to explore or change production scenarios. The focus for efficient open pit mine operations must be to find the best pit geometry and schedule given the forecasted economics and plan inputs. Mine plans can always benefit from more optimization. Faster tools for this mine planning optimization are needed.
From the start, Opencontour software has focused on building a tool that would make Openpit Planning easier for the user so that Managers can find important timely answers.
This presentation will summarize the tools and why these tools work. The software allows engineers to quickly import base surface contours and block models to rapidly generate graphical representations of pits using mid bench contours. This makes pit design with Geotech constraints, and other ramp and cut requirements a straightforward process. The software also includes a proven scheduler so that time is not wasted moving data to other software. The software is designed to quickly create iterations on the plan and then view and compare physical and financial data.
The cloud-based software with web browser access means that IT requirements are reduced and Mine Engineers are given advanced capabilities. The interface is accessible through a standard browser such as Google Chrome. Data doesn’t leave your computer, providing security.
The architecture in Cloud computing development also allows for more rapid development and testing through devOps when compared to traditional software development. The principles employed by Cloud computing include shortened and simplified feedback loops.
The integrated speed of design, analysis, and accessibility means that the mine team can rapidly work through multiple prototypes to find the most optimal changes necessary to meet market conditions.
There is also a need for innovative companies to be nimble and provide new technology solutions to a rapidly changing industry. Many existing Mine Software companies are too large to innovate. Opencontour also has benefited by working closely with consulting groups so that new tools can be tested and then quickly implemented.
