Abstract
As part of climate change mitigation initiatives, CanmetMINING has been performing research to support the electrification of Canadian and worldwide mines. Part of this work has included field data collection, data processing and energy consumption modelling. Field work has been developed in mining environments for diesel and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The field data collected has been processed to define fuel and energy consumption per kilometer under different speed, terrain grade and load conditions. An energy model was then calibrated with the field data, under the different operating conditions, for each piece of equipment. This presentation summarizes the research work that CanmetMINING has been developing recently, the results obtained and the next steps in the pursuit of the electric mine. This includes a summary of the methodology and parameter results for the energy model calibration process and an outline of how to use this model to predict energy consumption for different duty cycle simulations.
