Abstract
Global iron ore production is expected to grow at a forecasted rate of 2.6% between 2023 and 2026. At the same time, mining companies must cope with sustainability challenges, energy prices, parts, and labour costs, just to name a few, that are creating extreme pressure on their operations. This is where digital technologies can play an important role in helping iron or mining operations improve their efficiency and reduce costs.
Operational data is now available throughout the whole supply chain of iron ore mining activities, from pit to port. Mobile assets, rotating assets and fixed assets can provide significant amount of data, which can become valuable information once properly contextualized and managed. Reliability engineers can investigate the root cause of a failure with a descriptive analytics approach and implement condition-based maintenance with their operational data infrastructure. Predictive analytics and machine learning will be used to implement a predictive maintenance strategy. End-to-end visibility across the value chain will help increase efficiency by streamlining mining processes to improve long term planning down to weekly scheduling. Remote operations will provide visibility across different production areas and multiple mines and will help improve operations and sustainability.
This talk will provide you with a vision on how to address those challenges with a proper Digital Transformation Strategy and will provide you with iron ore mining companies examples in Canada and from all over the world that are leveraging their operational data to improve in their operations efficiency and sustainability results.
