Abstract
The art of asking versus telling, utilizing open-ended questions, is not as easy as you may think. Engagement, specifically how we ask questions, is critical to building the trust, psychological safety, relationships, and accountability necessary for culture change. Intentionally asking powerful questions creates conversations that matter. To become competent, confident, and comfortable with our questions we must do more than just talk about it. Excelling at engagement starts with recognizing our own biases and the willingness to be uncomfortable long enough to become competent. The change here is dependent on self-awareness and a willingness to be better.
The presenter will explain what gets in the way of good engagement and the impact this has on culture. She will present a model based on extensive front line experience that will break down engagement, focusing on our ability to ask powerful questions and intentional listening. She will demonstrate techniques, specific to inquiry, to develop a powerful skillset specific to dialogue, collaboration, and feedback necessary for culture change. Being intentional about asking powerful questions and intentionally listening will create moments of transformation in our workforce, organization, and ourselves.
