Abstract
Employee mental health has become one of the most important issues facing employers today. Recent research suggest that 70% of people feel their manager has more of an impact on their mental health than their therapist or doctor. This adds additional pressures for people in leadreship roles. With mental stress claims at 30% of short term disability cases, we recognize the importance of having a psychologically safe work culture to promote safe and healthy discussions where the belief is that nobody will be punished or humiliated for speaking up.
How are we doing this:
- Creating and implementing a Psychological Health and Safety Policy
- Proving Psychologically Safe Leadership training to those in leadership positions
- Promoting the "Power of Vulnerability" and empathetic leadership
- Ensuring our leadership team is trauma informed
- implementing on-site support for those who are experiencing mental stress
- Implementation of Mental Health and Wellness Steering Committee
- Establishing a Peer Support Program consisting of professionally trained volunteers to help support other employees.
