Abstract
As mines transition over to BEVs and increase electrical infrastructure use of their power grid, infrastructure becomes critically important to the cost of operating the mine. Charging strategies and solutions are necessary to deal with the demands now being placed upon the mine’s grid and infrastructure; specifically regarding peak shaving and supplementing energy at times of heavy demand to enable charging a large fleet simultaneously. This presentation will focus on the energy requirements and solutions available to ease energy concerns and allow for increased sustainability solutions, like battery electric vehicles, without massive grid upgrades or other large infrastructure requirements.
- Outline use cases where solutions could be required – heavy power usage for simultaneous charging or other needs can become a concern when switching to a battery electric fleet in a mine without the use of energy storage and charging solutions.
- Solutions like ESS and BESS will be outlined and discussed in detail to show how these can be implemented in a way that saves on energy costs and prevents major capital outlay that could be a potential block to the sustainability path.
- Components and setup of the possible solutions will be discussed showing how this is easily attainable in a mining environment.
