Abstract
Overview: Although the idea of teleremote machine operation is not new this technology is advancing at a rapid pace . Companies such as RCT Technologies have been converting and deploying teleremote solutions around the world for almost 40 years. The primary focus of miners utilizing teleremote solutions today is in safety-sensitive situations and removing operators from the line of fire. However, worldwide labour shortages in mining have brought new attention to teleremote solutions as an opportunity to look at a more diverse workforce. Operators can see other benefits to teleremote operations such as idle time reduction and machine utilization benefits which contribute to a reduction of a mine's overall carbon footprint as well. Teleremote solutions should be focused on five pillars – Digitization, Interoperability, Scalability, Adaptability and Information to get the most out of a teleremote solution. This paper will explore the common challenges that can be solved through teleremote technology and some of the recent use cases that have leveraged this technology to remove workers from high-risk environments and increased productivity.
