Abstract
Visibility in mining processes poses a huge obstacle to safe and optimal operation of production equipment. In many cases, limitations of traditional sensors can be overcome by 2D and 3D radar sensors. This technology is reshaping safety, efficiency, and sustainability in mining operations, transcending the limitations of technologies traditionally used from "Pit to Port."
In the challenging environmental conditions intrinsic to mining– where dust, rain, snow, and fog present formidable obstacles – the emergence of 2D and 3D radar sensors is redefining operational norms. We review where conventional sensors are being effectively utilized and outline the advantages of the latest radar sensors in adverse and complex conditions, allowing access to critical real-time data in areas previously deemed inaccessible due to environmental challenges.
In areas with challenging visibility, 3D radar data plays an integral role across the Digital Journey of mining operations. From automation to autonomous mining equipment, the seamless integration of radar and radio technology can offer a holistic solution to enhance safety protocols, from Proximity Detection Systems (PDS) to Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS), bulk material handling, inventory management, and removing throughput bottlenecks.
This presentation will focus on the broad range of applications for 3D radar in mining. A comprehensive examination of recent case studies at industry giants will illuminate the real-world applications of radar sensors in diverse mining scenarios and how this technology empowers mining leaders to overcome challenges, optimize operations, and achieve unprecedented levels of safety and efficiency.
We present a panoramic view of the transformative power of indurad radar sensors in mining and explore how these innovations cut through environmental challenges, providing clarity, precision, and reliability where it matters most. The resilience of 3D radar technology offers a unique opportunity toward a safer, more efficient, and sustainable future in mining.
