Abstract
Industry pressure for decarbonization and meeting Net Zero goals is increasing. Many companies are exploring various technologies to help reduce their carbon footprint while increasing operational efficiencies, including small modular reactors. This presentation will explore the practicalities of bringing an SMR to mining applications across Canada. It will discuss various operational models, licensing requirements, responsibilities across all parties involved and various logistic requirements. Most importantly, we will dive into understanding the risk and timelines for implementation and outline when various decisions need to take place. Technology example will include the Westinghouse eVinci microreactor, a transportable, scalable, high-grade heat and/or power source ideal for deployment in challenging mining environments.
