Abstract
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) have become a popular trade-off option for many mining projects and operations due to their health and safety benefits, greenhouse gas reductions, ventilation requirements, and potential performance benefits. When considering BEVs for a mining operation or project there are many site-specific characteristics and challenges that may arise with BEV implementation. It is important to understand the entirety of the mine infrastructure when considering BEVs to ensure projects proceed in the correct direction understanding all impact areas.
This presentation will highlight various case studies that from actual mining projects and operations. The case studies will range from early-stage study work to operation. The cases will include various mine access methods, material handling methods, mine depths, throughput requirements, and other site-specific challenges that require consideration in the BEV decision making process.
Outputs and recommendations from the various cases will be discussed including present cost assessments, implementation successes and flaws, and impact on carbon emissions.
