Abstract
The presentation will first review the results from health & safety and operational assessments at multiple production geology facilities (core shacks) as to the drivers for significant change in equipment and workflow at Vale Base Metals in Canada. Confidential surveys with teams in both exploration and production geology showed a breadth of results with Health & Safety concerns including significant levels of repetitive strain injuries like musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) The aggregated results will be shared to show a better understanding of the issues with traditional core shacks.
In the second part, the options and experiences from design, layout and implementation willl be shown to give context on what can be done to make a core shack both safer and more productive. Discussion on the experiences and best practices at these Vale sites and the implementation of new technology within a modified workflow will be discussed. In summation, quantitative results for key sites based on their present operations.will be provided where available.
