Abstract
The term process safety is increasingly being used in the mining industry in a range of ways. The presentation begins by defining process safety and explores some of the significant process safety incidents that have impacted the mining industry and lessons that can be learned from these events. It will then discuss the importance of systems safety engineering especially its focus on the management automation and AI technology risks. The presentation will conclude be proposing a risk management system framework for mining that integrates the disciplines of process safety and systems safety engineering with critical control management in a manner that if tailored to pit to processing to port mining operations.
