Abstract
This paper presents a study from Red Lake Operations on the viability of utilizing resin injection on a Jumbo bolter compared to a standard resin cartridge tube insert method. The objective of the study was to justify the use of a resin injection system on a Jumbo bolter to optimize the bolting cycle; highlighting this system does not compromise installation quality or cycle time.
The study provided a series of learnings that have contributed to the understanding of how the system can be utilized and optimized. In general, there were three key metric components of the study: cycle time efficiencies, quality of resin and its encapsulation (through pull testing), and a comparison against the conventional cartridge tube insertion method. Anecdotally, the trial also considered items such as ground conditions, health and safety, maintenance, modus operandi of the system, notable flexibilities with the system and additional components required.
The ultimate goal of the study was to demonstrate that for a development bolting cycle, a resin injection system provides a time saving benefit while also achieving the desired quality of the intended bolting regime.
