Abstract
The Creighton Mine Phase 5 Expansion Project aims to enhance the existing underground mine located in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The project involves expanding the mine from approximately 8,590 feet to 10,000 feet through conventional ramping. Key components of the project include comprehensive underground mine development, advanced ventilation systems, rigorous geotechnical assessments, and cutting-edge structural and numerical stress modeling. A significant highlight is the integration of battery/electric vehicle fleets and the necessary infrastructure to support them, underscoring our commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly mining practices. The project also covers project management, health and safety plans, quality plans, construction plans, and procurement support. The execution strategy is a collaborative effort, involving multiple WSP offices and strategic partners specializing in ventilation, geostructural, geomechanical, and truck traffic simulation modeling. Early works have been accelerated to improve project economics and include the development of mine air cooling plants, battery electric vehicle charging stations, maintenance shops, and surface facilities. This proactive approach not only improves efficiency but also sets a new standard for innovation in the mining industry.
