Abstract
The authors will present a high level view of provincial power requirements; the current industrial/consumption landscape; and key opportunities to consider various nuclear options to encourage decarbonization and electrification especially in the mining and near mines communities here. As time allows we'll highlight the key options where possible to also include some discussion on small/light industrial power for consumer business servicing the mining sites and companies as a means to better complete the industries climate impact circle. Initial framing for this discussion will include the discussions of the various sizes and types of U- generation mode(s) as well as give the audience, listeners some background on how Saskatchewan currently fits into the existing national power, GHG generation and industrial mining consumption situations. In this way serious climate change students may be able to see direct analogies to the options & scale possible for other regions, provinces or territories in Canadian mining communities. Mr. Labbe is the Regional Director for the federal MICA initiative and a Mining/Mechanical Emeritus Prof., Research Manager active at Saskatchewan Polytechnic who has over 40 years work experience in EPCM & research and is a Fellow of the CIM. SRC is a certified uranium investigator c/w a former medical materials reactor (SLOWPOKE) operations license representing the province in nuclear research, certification & study, quality systems design/management towards the near-term prospects for introducing nuclear power reactors here.
