Abstract
This document serves as a descriptive guide for conducting a Kaizen event at Hydro MPSA, aimed at employees and contractors involved in the Kaizen methodology. The main objective is to outline the steps of a Kaizen, ensuring that all participants understand the essential concepts and practices for continuous process improvement.
The document introduces key concepts, such as the Business Case, which defines Kaizen objectives and describes measurable indicators to assess progress toward improvement goals. It also explains waste, defined as any activity that consumes resources without adding value to the process or the end customer. Among the types of waste highlighted are transportation, movement, waiting, overproduction, excessive stock, defects, and others.
Additionally, the document defines the Kaizen Event, also known as Kaizen Blitz or Kaizen Multiday, as a structured methodology for executing improvements in a specific process over five days, using data to validate achieved results. Follow-Up refers to the continuous tracking of actions and indicators, while the concept of Gemba emphasizes observing processes directly on the shop floor, or "real place" where work is performed.
The Kaizen methodology itself is described as a philosophy of continuous improvement that emphasizes small, consistent changes to optimize processes. Related to this, Lean Manufacturing is introduced as a production practice that minimizes waste and maximizes productivity by promoting resource efficiency and respect for workers. The PDCA methodology (Plan, Do, Check, Act) serves as a foundational approach for problem-solving and implementing continuous improvement.
The document also discusses Potential Gain, referring to the benefits from improvements, which can enhance various areas and processes, and the role of the Sponsor, who ensures the resources and feasibility of the project. Finally, the Multidisciplinary Team is explained as a group comprising members from different areas, ensuring collaboration and necessary support for implementing improvements.
This guide aims to ensure that all participants understand and effectively apply Kaizen principles, fostering a culture of efficiency and continuous improvement at Hydro MPSA.
