Abstract
Discover how COVID and Seismic activities accelerated the automation in mines that invested in the LTE technology.
A recent article confirms the good performance of AgnicoEagle is partially a result of the automation strategy that helped improve productivity and reduced employee exposure to seismicity. “Since April 2020, 54% of the West mine stope mucking has been done with automated scoops. In September 2020, 87% of the production mucking relied on automation. Going forward, the West mine area is expected to be mucked mostly in automated mode”
Learn how the LTE disruptive technology allows multiples large mining companies to increase the safety of their workers and increase their productivity by remotely controlling mining equipment. The well proven and reliable LTE technology is an enabler allowing mining companies to address their automation needs and increase their efficiency while reducing their deployment costs. The cost of deploying LTE is cheaper than Wi-Fi networks and the rapidity to deploy the network is astonishing with an installation rate of 1.5km per day. A single active LTE radio installed in the substations can provide coverage to 6km of underground tunnels!
This presentation will demonstrate how LTE has been deployed at AgnicoEagle LaRonde and will cover some key aspects of the LTE technology:
- Low frequencies and non-line of sight communication
- End-to-end quality of service (QoS) for mission critical applications
- RF Operational characteristics
- On-premises LTE components ensuring data integrity and security
- Real-time tracking capabilities and emergency messaging system
- Remote operation of drills, LHD and trucks
Come and see how the LTE is deployed by large mining customers in both open-pit and underground mining environments. Learn how and which mining applications has been tested over LTE technology including legacy layer-2 based applications.
