Abstract
With the advent of new technology, there is always an inherent desire for the current technology to have zero emissions. The improvement of Battery Electric Vehicle paved the way for zero-emission operations. However, BEVs in mining operations have a unique business case. From our perspective, many considerations should be evaluated before implementing BEV within underground and surface operations.
Mike Mayhew is a Subject Matter Expert in Battery Technology with over 30 years of Mining Experience. He was a key pioneer in developing the world’s first 40-tonne Battery Electric Truck (Z40) and operating at the Macassa Mine. Mayhew Performance Ltd (MPL) is currently engaged in many BEV projects worldwide, working with global clients to provide technical and operational expertise.
This presentation will discuss BEV implementation benefits, lessons learned, and challenges while sharing our hands-on experience comparing Battery Electric Vehicles vs. Diesel counterparts.
