Résumé - Abstract
Negotiating and Implementing Successful Agreements with Companies
Dr. Ginger Gibson,The Firelight Group
Abstract
Firelight works across the country to facilitate best practices and responsible mining development. The Impact and Benefit Agreement team focussed on how communities can be actively engaged in all phases of exploration and mining, shaping project realities and outcomes. Firelight’s Director – Dr. Ginger Gibson – will review the best practices in environmental monitoring, business development, employment and training. As the Lead Negotiator for agreements that range from exploration to historic mining, Dr. Gibson will review the successful practices in negotiations, discuss the key ways to establish leverage, and some of the most difficult issues that communities encounter as they negotiate and implement arrangements across the table from companies. Dr. Gibson currently manages IBAs in Alaska, northern Canada, British Columbia, Alberta, and other jurisdictions. She worked for Makivik and communities during the refresh of the Raglan Agreement in 2015 and assisted to bring that agreement to a close.
