Abstract
Mining uses only a fraction of the amount of land that the agricultural industries use, and it’s part of the renewable solution as well; however, mining consumes 2 to 3% of the world’s electricity for comminution alone, demonstrating one of the many compelling reasons why comminution must be more energy efficient. Material science applied in crusher and grinder wear parts manufacturing can reduce energy consumption in the crushing and grinding operations themselves. This presentation describes the advantages of using non-traditional alloys (or ceramic and alloy combinations) to produce wear parts used in comminution through literature review and case studies
