Abstract
One of the key influences in shaft layout and hoisting plant design, is the conveyance guiding system selection. Two primary guiding system options available are fixed guides and rope guides. This paper will compare the two options and will present the factors requiring consideration in choosing the correct solution for the mine’s operation. There are several innovative solutions and modern advancements in conveyance guiding, such as the fixed guide cantilever bunton system and rope tensioning system for the rope guide system.
This paper will define the fixed guide and rope guide systems and indicate benefits and deficiencies with each. Comparison of the two guide systems will identify important considerations such as, shaft clearances, hoisting speeds, operational wear on guides and conveyances, construction cost and maintenance cost.
