Abstract
This integrated project addresses the critical necessity for transparent communication concerning the chemical composition of mining tailings in Chile. The user-friendly web interface serves as a comprehensive platform, fostering effective communication between industry professionals and local communities to establish trust and acquire the social license essential for sustainable mining practices. Through clear visualizations, layman-friendly language, and interactive features, the interface caters to the diverse needs of both industry stakeholders and community members.
For industry professionals, the platform offers in-depth technical data, analysis, and insights into tailings composition, promoting a better understanding of environmental impact and mitigation measures. Simultaneously, community-centric features, such as localized content, FAQ sections, and community forums, address the unique concerns of local residents, fostering an open dialogue.
The ultimate goal of the project is to facilitate a two-way communication channel between the industry and communities, promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual understanding. The web interface aims to bridge the communication gap and contribute to establishing a social license for mining operations in Chile. This initiative aligns with broader objectives of sustainable development and responsible resource extraction, ensuring that the concerns of both industry and community stakeholders are adequately addressed for the benefit of all parties involved.
In the context of sustainable mining, the work reviews the impact of dust associated with heap leaching waste piles, a significant issue affecting safety in mining operations worldwide. While reclamation efforts seek to minimize environmental effects, the focus here is on monitoring dust levels to ensure they remain within safe limits. The review discusses current practices in dust monitoring with an emphasis on technological solutions and proposes improvements for automated and more precise monitoring. This dual-focused approach underscores the commitment to sustainable mining practices, addressing both communication transparency and environmental safety concerns.
